TYPES OF HARDWOOD DECKING

Some types of decking are more suited to certain geographical locations. However, mostly it’s simply a question of your personal preference, which one will complement your house and garden the best.

Spotted Gum Timber

Spotted Gum, a class 1 hardwood, boasts a lifespan of 25-50 years above ground with proper maintenance. Its varying shades from pale straw to rich chocolate brown, coupled with interlocked grain, offer timeless appeal. Locally grown and environmentally sustainable, it's highly resistant to decay and termites, making it ideal for Australian conditions.

Merbau Timber

Merbau, also a class 1 hardwood, offers up to 40 years of durability above ground when maintained. Its colour evolves from golden/brown to a deeper red/brown over time, complemented by mahogany flecking in the grain. Highly resistant to decay and termites, Merbau is suitable for coastal regions. However, being an imported species, it's less environmentally sustainable compared to Australian Spotted Gum.
